I absolutely love telling stories and it's more or less why I do everything I do, from making games, to teaching & writing.

Jinzo: A Puzzle Platformer

Posted by OmarShehata - January 14th, 2010

My latest, or rather, most exciting project Jinzo. Jinzo is a puzzle platformer using the box2d physics engine. You'll find yourself pushing blocks, combining items, hanging onto ropes, adjusting lasers and mirrors and much more in this unique physics game!

That sounds really fun, check out my userpage(as archon68 call it)
The last you made wasn't that fun, but it was well made because its lack of speed in rotating and sound!
But this sounds really great!!! :D :D :D

ooh, wait the comment is wrong here's how it should be:

Sounds like front page material right there.

The graphicks look real good, but its not spotive to yet again copy and paste the ENTIRE PHYSICS ENGINE. Half the game is already made. Please, if you make a physics game, at least try do it yourself.

As I said before, this is more of a question of ethics. Box2D is an open-source physics engine. Sure I could spend a month or two learning about the required formulas and physics, but when someone has already done it before, and better, it would be wise to use what he did and build upon it.

Adobe made Actionscript (or rather Macromedia but that's not the point), which is a high level language to help people quickly and easily develop games. You using Actionscript is the same as me using an open-source engine. The graphics API they have in there, the BitmapData class and all that. All these are pre-written classes, they just happen to be built into Flash.

If we were determined to do everything ourselves, we'd never get anywhere in life. When a mathematician enters the field, he doesn't waste his time building all the formula's from the ground up, he takes what is done and builds upon them.

Besides, it's not like I just type:

import Box2D.*
ApplyPhysics();

There are parts you need to re-write to fit your needs, parts you need to build upon, and overall you just need to have an understanding of how the physics engine works to use it.

I am essentially taking what has been done before, and building upon it.

Man that was long.

The point of Box2D is to let game designers do what they do best: game design, and to not have to consult maths whores every 5 minutes.

Man you've come on a lohg way 4urentertainment. Good luck.

Thanks man!

Kevin Bacon made this game?

Of course! Can't you tell?

hey can u help me understand box2d for as3? if you have aim/msn or pm that would be nice thank u

Are you still working on this game? It's been a while since you updated this post and I hope you haven't dropped it. It looks pretty interesting.

The project's actually idle right now. Finishing the engine's not a problem because box2D handles almost everything, I just realized that making challenging yet fun levels for this game was going to take a lot of time, so I just wanted to try finishing a few more games to get some more experience so I can make this game as fun as possible.

Cool now finish it or imma break into your house and eat your computer.

I wish we could finish The Universe Collab...
